Troubleshooting & FAQ

Something broken? Find your fix below.

Modern Minecraft (1.21+) requires Java 21. If Prism is pointing to the wrong version, follow these steps.

Steps
  1. Download and install Java 21 from Adoptium.net.
  2. Open Prism Launcher and right-click your instance → Edit.
  3. Go to Settings → Java in the sidebar.
  4. Click the Auto-detect button.
  5. Select the 21.0.x entry and click OK.

If Minecraft is stuttering or freezing, the memory limit in Prism is probably too low. Bump it up.

Steps
  1. Right-click your instance → EditSettingsJava.
  2. Check the Memory checkbox to unlock the sliders.
  3. Set Maximum memory to 6144 MiB (6 GB) or 8192 MiB (8 GB).
Never assign more than half your total system RAM — leaving headroom for Windows and other apps is important.

Laptops often run Minecraft on the weak integrated graphics instead of the dedicated GPU. You need to force Java (not Prism) to use the right card.

Part 1 — Find the Java Path
  1. In Prism, open Java settings (same page as Auto-detect).
  2. Find the Java path field — it'll be a long folder path.
  3. Copy the entire path to your clipboard.
Part 2 — Windows Graphics Settings
  1. Search Windows for Graphics Settings and open it.
  2. Under "Add an app", click Add desktop app.
  3. Paste the copied path into the file bar and select javaw.exe.
  4. Once it appears in the list, click Options.
  5. Select High Performance and click Save.
